An oncologist, academic teacher, and retired head of the Department and Clinic of Oncology and Radiotherapy at the Medical University of Gdańsk. He is a recipient of numerous scientific awards, including those from the Prime Minister, the Mayor of Vienna, the Sobolewski Award from the Polish Society of Oncology, the Joseph Cullen Award from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, the Heweliusz Award from the Mayor of Gdańsk, and the title of 'Outstanding Pole' from the 'Teraz Polska' Foundation. He is a member of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences, the Academia Europaea, and the Polish Academy of Learning. He is a former chairman of the Polish Society of Oncology.
